Southwest Christian is excited to announce the third head varsity coach in school history, Paul Ranheim. He has an extensive amount of playing and coaching experience with a proven track record of developing, motivating and elevating high school and elite hockey players. Paul comes highly regarded by his peers and current / former players because of his unique ability to impact players on and off the ice.
Coaching/Playing Experience
Paul just completed his 9th year at Eden Prairie High School as an assistant coach. Prior to joining the Eagles, he coached at St. Louis Park High School and with the Phoenix Coyotes Community Outreach. Paul has coached in the Upper Midwest Elite Hockey League the last 9 years. He played high school hockey in Edina and was captain of their state championship team in 1984. Collegiately Paul skated for the University of Wisconsin Badgers from 1984-1988 and graduated as one of the school's all-time leading scorers. He was an NCAA All-American in his senior year and a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award. Following his career at Wisconsin, Paul was drafted 38th overall by the Calgary Flames and played 1,013 NHL games over 15 seasons (1988-2003) for the Flames, Whalers, Hurricanes, Flyers and Coyotes. He also played with Team USA in three World Championships and was a member of the first US World Junior team to medal - bronze at the 1986 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships. In addition to running private clinics, he has been a senior on-ice hockey instructor at Breakaway Academy since 2015. Paul has two daughters - Sophia, and Julianna.

We are excited to have an incredible coach like Paul take over the Stars hockey program. Paul brings 25+ years of coaching and playing experience ranging from youth to NHL to our hockey community. He is highly regarded in the hockey community and we can't wait to see how his skill set and past experiences enhance our hockey program!
